Vung Tau is among the rare places along the coast of southern Vietnam which remain quite dry throughout most of the year. The dry season spans November through April, characterized by calm waters, low humidity, and excellent beach conditions. The wet season spans May to October, when there is afternoon rainfall along with some rough waves, although not for the whole day. The city is always busy during the weekends due to its closeness to Ho Chi Minh City; however, if you are visiting during the weekdays, the beaches are yours.

What to See in Vung Tau

• Bai Sau Beach - Longer beach on the eastern side of the peninsula, with more tranquil waters than the front beach. Mid-range and resort hotels are found in abundance in this area. In the early morning hours, prior to the weekend rush, the beach towards the northern end is quite peaceful - fishermen dragging their nets out of the water, runners jogging on the beach path.
• Christ the King Statue - Large white statue of Christ, with extended arms, located on the top of Nui Nho (Small Mountain). The effort to climb 800+ steps to the top is worthwhile for the views across the peninsula, both beaches, and the shipping routes in the area.
• Bach Dinh (Villa Blanche) - An old French colonial villa constructed in the latter part of the 19th century, situated on a hilltop overlooking Front Beach with a view of the harbor. The area is accessible to visitors, and the structure contains a museum with a collection of Cham antiquities and porcelain. One of the more interesting relics of the colonial period that remains in southern Vietnam.
• Seafood Restaurants on Bai Sau - It is along the road by Back Beach where one can find the best dining experiences in Vung Tau. From grilled squid to clams prepared in a multitude of ways, steamed crab and the regional specialty of banh khot are the dishes to try. Seafood here is not expensive and is always very fresh due to frequent turnover.
