PRIVATE CAR — CAN THO TO CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK VIA NORTH-SOUTH EXPRESSWAY

CAN THO TO CAT TIEN - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

1/ Where is Cat Tien ?

Cat Tien National Park is located northeast of the southern region, about 150 km north of Ho Chi Minh City along National Highway 20. Departing directly from Can Tho by private car is the ultimate choice to seamlessly connect both destinations in a single day without routing through Saigon. This journey offers a spectacular scenic transition, shifting beautifully from the water-bound world and endless rice fields of the Mekong Delta to the rubber plantations and lush, dense forests of Dong Nai.

2/ Is Cat Tien National Park worth visiting?

Cat Tien National Park is a true paradise for nature lovers, offering an incredible escape into raw biodiversity and ancient rainforests. Thanks to the North-South Expressway, traveling directly from Can Tho is now faster than ever, bypassing city traffic seamlessly. Booking a private car from Can Tho to Cat Tien door - to - door  with us is the perfect, hassle-free way to transition from the river life of the Mekong Delta to the lush, wild greenery of Dong Nai.

3/ Can Tho to Cat Tien Route Map

Can Tho → Expressway NE → Mỹ Thuận → Trung Lương → Dầu Giây (Đồng Nai) → QL20 North → Cat Tien National Park

4/ Is there any public transport from Can Tho to Cat Tien?

Not directly. Cat Tien has no bus service from Can Tho — the only realistic public transport option is to take a bus or express service to TP.HCM first, then arrange separate transport to Cat Tien from there. That means two stages, two terminals, luggage transfers, and arriving at a national park at an unpredictable time with no one waiting for you. For a forest reserve where most accommodation is eco-lodges scattered across a large area, the door-to-door value of a private car is more obvious than on most routes.

5/ How to book and pay?

Send your pickup address in Can Tho, your lodge or accommodation address in Cat Tien, departure time, number of passengers, and luggage count via WhatsApp, Zalo or Viber: (+84) 976 694 384 or email muineprivatecarservice@gmail.com. We confirm the same day.

Book at muineprivatecar.net. Payment in cash at drop-off, or in advance by Visa, Mastercard, or Bank Transfer. Available 24/7.

Our Customers

PRIVATE CAR FROM CAN THO TO CAT TIEN TRANSFER

As per your requirement of timing and location for pick up service from Can Tho as mentioned in your booking form, our driver will collect you from your doorstep. After that, we will take you through an enjoyable ride in a good condition private car with air-conditioning facility, all the way from Can Tho city to the destination point which is about 340 km away from here via Mekong Delta to Dong Nai province.

Along the way, you will travel through the scenic provinces of the Mekong Delta and the lush landscapes of Dong Nai, and our driver will stop for rest breaks upon request or at modern rest stops along the highway. Upon arrival in Cat Tien National Park, the driver will drop you off at your desired location or the river boat crossing, check the vehicle to ensure you haven't left anything behind, and your trip is over. You can pay the remaining balance if you made a deposit beforehand and say goodbye to the driver.

Pick Up & Departure

Our private car will be dispatched to your address in Can Tho, such as Can Tho International Airport, hotels in the city center, or any residential area. Of course, our driver can pick you up anywhere in the city. Please note that if you require pickups from two or more locations, please let us know in advance. Additional charges may apply if the pickup locations are far apart or multiple pickup points are used.

During The Transfer

Our driver will choose the most convenient route. Typically, travelers will go via the Mekong Delta Expressways, crossing the majestic My Thuan Bridge, and then connecting to National Highway 20 (QL20) through Dong Nai province. We guarantee a smooth ride so that travelers can comfortably enjoy the fascinating transition of scenery from the flat rice fields to the dense green forests along the way.

Furthermore, travelers can request short stops along the way. Sitting in the car for too long can be uncomfortable for many people. Therefore, if you wish to rest, have coffee, have a snack, use the restroom, etc., please inform the driver. The driver will make flexible stops at modern service stations along the expressway or near the Dau Giay interchange for you.

Additionally, we can arrange sightseeing stops for those who have time. Those who wish to visit multiple places before arriving in Cat Tien National Park can add these attractions to their itinerary. We recommend stopping to capture photos at the endless, geometric rubber plantations along QL20 or adjusting the schedule to fit your exploring pace.

Besides one-way transfers, we can arrange round-trip multi-day tours from Can Tho to Cat Tien. Also, transfers from Cat Tien to Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, or back to Can Tho Airport are provided upon request.

Arrival at Cat Tien National Park

Your driver takes you to your accommodation address whether that's one of the lodges inside the park boundary (accessible after the river crossing), a guesthouse in Tà Lài village, or anywhere in the surrounding area. Cat Tien's lodges and eco-camps are spread over a significant area; include the full address and GPS coordinates if possible when booking to ensure the driver knows exactly where to go.

Rest Stop Dầu Giây Service Area

The Dầu Giây interchange area roughly the halfway point of the journey is the natural stop on this route. It's where the expressway ends and QL20 begins, there are service facilities, and the transition from high-speed highway to narrower provincial road naturally prompts a 15–20 minute break. Recommended for lunch if you're leaving Can Tho early.

Cat Tien National Park - What You're Arriving At

Cat Tien National Park covers about 72,000 hectares of lowland tropical rainforest across three provinces Lâm Đồng, Đồng Nai, and Bình Phước. It's one of the last remaining large lowland forest areas in southern Vietnam and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Đồng Nai River runs through the park; the boat crossing from the mainland side to the park interior is part of the experience.

What distinguishes Cat Tien from other national parks in Vietnam is that it's genuinely accessible without specialised trekking equipment, but also genuinely wild. Night drives on the park road — done in open-top jeeps with rangers — regularly produce gaur (Asian bison), sambar deer, civets, and on lucky nights, leopard cats. The bird list is over 350 species. The forest at dawn, before the heat arrives, is one of the better sensory experiences available in southern Vietnam.

When to go:

  • December to April (dry season): Best window for wildlife. The forest floor is dry enough to walk, the trails are accessible, and animals concentrate around water sources — making night drives and dawn walks more productive. The drive on QL20 is at its most straightforward in dry weather.
  • May to November (wet season): The forest is at its most lush and bird activity is high. Trails can be muddy and some areas flood. Night drives continue but sightings shift — different species are more active in the wet season. QL20 is fine in rain; the park interior roads are manageable with a good vehicle.
  • Departure timing from Can Tho: Leave at 6:00–7:00am. This gets you through the delta on the expressway before midday, through Dầu Giây for lunch, and to Cat Tien by 2:00–3:00pm — early enough to register, settle in, and join an afternoon activity before the night drive.

What to do at Cat Tien:

  • Night drives (xe jeep đêm): The main reason most people come. Open jeeps with spotlights on the park road after dark the ranger drives slowly and sweeps the tree line and grassland edges. Gaur, deer, and civets are common; birds roosting in trees are also visible. Book through your lodge or the park office on arrival.
  • Dawn birdwatching walks: The park's 350+ bird species include hornbills, pittas, kingfishers, and the green peafowl. The trail near the park headquarters is productive from first light. Bring binoculars; the park can arrange guides.
  • Crocodile Lake (Bàu Sấu): A seasonal wetland about 10 km from the park headquarters the only wild Siamese crocodile habitat in Vietnam. Accessible by guided walk or bicycle; boat trips on the lake are available in the wet season when water levels are high enough.
  • Ben Cu Rapids and forest trails: The Đồng Nai River has rapids accessible by short hike from the park interior. Swimming is possible in dry season. The trails through the primary forest between the river and the park road are among the most rewarding walks in southern Vietnam.
  • Tà Lài village (outside the park): A S'tiêng minority village on the southern edge of the park buffer zone. Some families offer homestays and can arrange traditional forest activities. Worth an afternoon if you're staying multiple nights.

Why Book With Us?

  • We know the full route expressway and QL20. The expressway section is the easy part. QL20 from Dầu Giây to Cat Tien has a specific rhythm — trucks on the lower section, narrowing road in the forest section, and the park entrance turnoff that first-timers regularly miss. Our drivers have done this run.

  • We drop you at your exact lodge address. Cat Tien's accommodation is spread across a large area — some lodges are inside the park boundary (requiring the boat crossing), others are in the Tà Lài buffer zone. Send us your full accommodation address and we'll navigate to it.

  • SUV recommended for this route. The expressway section is fine in any vehicle. The QL20 section in the forest and the park approach road benefit from a vehicle with better ground clearance — especially in wet season. We'll recommend the right option for your travel period.

  • Nearly 7-hour drive comfort matters. Modern 2023–2026 fleet, proper air conditioning, legroom. For a long drive ending at a forest where you'll be walking that evening, arriving in a well-maintained car makes a difference.

  • Driver details the night before. Name, phone number, license plate via WhatsApp before 21:00 Vietnam time. Direct contact throughout the journey.

  • Fixed price for the full distance. 341 km, two road types, one quoted price. No metered extras at the QL20 junction.

★ THE MOST PRACTICAL ROUTE: Expressway → Dầu Giây → QL20

Can Tho → North-South Expressway → Dầu Giây interchange → QL20 North → Cat Tien — 341 km, about 6 hours 55 minutes. This is the only realistic one-day connection between the Mekong Delta and Cat Tien. Here's why:

  • The expressway eliminates the old bottleneck. Before the Mỹ Thuận–Cần Thơ section opened, this journey required grinding through national highway traffic from the delta all the way to TP.HCM. The expressway cuts that section from 3+ hours to under 2.5 hours.
  • Dầu Giây is the natural junction. The expressway terminates at Dầu Giây in Đồng Nai — and QL20 to Cat Tien starts right there. No city navigation, no complex routing through TP.HCM traffic.
  • QL20 is the only road to Cat Tien from this direction. There's no alternative approach from the south. QL20 north from Dầu Giây is the road; the only question is how you get to Dầu Giây.
  • 6 hours 55 minutes is genuinely doable in one day. Leave Can Tho at 6:00–7:00am, arrive at Cat Tien by 2:00–3:00pm. That's enough time to check in, rest briefly, and join a late afternoon activity before the night drive.

Can Tho to Cat Tien: Transport Options Compared (2026)

Method Travel Time Approx. Cost Notes
Private Car (expressway + QL20) ~6 hrs 55 min From $135 (per car) ★★★★★ Door to door — only realistic 1-day option
Bus to TP.HCM + bus to Cat Tien 10–14 hrs total $15–25 (per pax) Two separate journeys; no direct bus to park; arrives very late
Bus to TP.HCM + overnight + Cat Tien next day 2 days $20–40 (per pax) Adds a full day; only makes sense if staying in Saigon en route

FAQs - Private Car Can Tho to Cat Tien

Question Answer
How far is Can Tho from Cat Tien National Park? Approximately 341 km — northeast on the North-South Expressway through Mỹ Thuận and Trung Lương to the Dầu Giây interchange, then north on QL20 through Đồng Nai and Lâm Đồng to Cat Tien.
How long does the drive take? Around 6 hours 55 minutes. The expressway section (Can Tho to Dầu Giây) takes about 2.5 hours at highway speed. QL20 from Dầu Giây to Cat Tien takes about 2 hours. Allow extra time for the lunch break at Dầu Giây.
What time should I leave Can Tho? 6:00–7:00am. This puts you at Dầu Giây by 9:00–10:00am for a proper break, and at Cat Tien by 2:00–3:00pm — enough time to register at the park, settle in, and join an afternoon activity before the night drive.
Where exactly can you pick me up in Can Tho? Anywhere — hotels near Ninh Kieu Wharf, city center, Can Tho Airport, or any address in Can Tho. Include your full pickup address when booking.
Can you drop me at a specific lodge inside the park? Yes — if your accommodation is road-accessible (most lodges near the park entrance and in Tà Lài are). Note that some lodges inside the park boundary require a short boat crossing over the Đồng Nai River which the car cannot cross — in that case we drop you at the boat landing. Include your lodge address when booking so we can confirm.
Which vehicle do you recommend for this route? An SUV is recommended — particularly for wet season travel or if you're heading to accommodation in the forest buffer zone. The QL20 section and the Cat Tien approach roads are better with higher ground clearance. A Sedan works well in dry season on the main road.
Is the price per person or per vehicle? Per vehicle. One price whether you're traveling solo or as a group — significantly better value than per-person alternatives on a journey this long.
Are expressway tolls included? Yes — all road costs including expressway tolls are included in the quoted price. No extras at the toll booths.
Can I book the return trip (Cat Tien to Can Tho) at the same time? Yes — round-trip rates available. Book both legs together. For early morning departures from Cat Tien (the park is best explored at dawn), we can be at your lodge at whatever time you need.
How far in advance should I book? At least 48–72 hours ahead for a long-distance route like this. During Vietnamese public holidays, book earlier.
