Tran De Port Gateway to Con Dao

Tran De district (Tran De, Soc Trang) occupies the southeastern tip of Soc Trang province where the Hau River — the southern distributary of the Mekong — empties into the South China Sea. The port itself is a practical facility: a concrete pier, a covered passenger terminal building, a small parking lot, and the characteristic smell of the delta meeting saltwater. There are food stalls inside and outside the terminal, basic seating while you wait, and a ticketing area where you check in for the ferry. It is not a scenic destination. It is the place you pass through to get to Con Dao.

What makes Tran De significant is its position — it is the closest mainland port to Con Dao Island by sea distance. The crossing from Tran De to Con Dao covers roughly 83 nautical miles on open water in the South China Sea. The Superdong high-speed catamaran and the Con Dao Express both operate this route, completing the crossing in 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes depending on sea conditions.
