Ong Temple
Ong Pagoda, located in Can Tho City, is one of the most famous and well-preserved Chinese pagodas in the Mekong Delta. Built in the late 19th century by the Chinese community from Guangdong and Fujian, the pagoda serves as a place of worship and a cultural center for the local Chinese-Vietnamese people.
The pagoda is dedicated to Guan Yu, a legendary general known for his loyalty and integrity. It also houses altars to other deities, including the Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin) and the God of Wealth. The architecture of Ong Pagoda is a beautiful example of traditional Chinese design, with intricate carvings, colorful ceramic decorations, and an eye-catching roof decorated with dragon motifs.
Visitors to Ong Pagoda can experience a tranquil and spiritual atmosphere, as well as witness traditional rituals and celebrations, especially during the Lunar New Year and other Chinese festivals. The temple is not only a religious site but also an important cultural landmark reflecting the long-standing Chinese heritage in Can Tho.
