The section from Hai Phong through Hanoi's outskirts is busiest but remains orderly. Hanoi itself is bypassed via the expressway; you do not enter central Hanoi traffic.

Northeast of Hanoi, the landscape begins to change visibly — rural countryside, then foothills, then mountains. The CT05 continues until Lao Cai, then you leave the expressway and climb onto the mountain roads leading to Sapa. By the time you reach Sapa you will be 1,500 meters higher in elevation with mountain air — temperature can drop 15–20 degrees compared to the coast.
